Dr. Rita V. Linkner
My name is Rita V. Linkner, and I am a Board-certified Dermatologist who specializes in Cosmetics. I’m a New Yorker and the daughter of two immigrants from India, who came to the City decades ago to pursue their dreams. I graduated high school from Horace Mann, and my college career was spent majoring in Biology at Johns Hopkins University. I tell my patients that spending four years in Florida getting my medical school degree from the University of Miami was the best four years of my life. Partly, because Miami is where I met my husband, Evan. Together we have two kids, our son, Asher, and our daughter, Loni. When I am not seeing patients, you can find me juggling entrepreneurial pursuits with motherhood.
My mother is an Anesthesiologist/Pain Management Physician, and I grew up shadowing her in the hospital. She taught me how to treat people like the gold that they are. Her job, in essence, is to take away people’s pain. It doesn’t get more convincing than that in medicine. My father is a Graphic Designer who owned his own printing press for over three decades in Manhattan. He taught me how to balance science with art, a concept that I take advantage of daily in my work.
My father also influenced my career choice. His battle with Psoriasis is why I pursued a two-year fellowship in Dermatopharmacology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. It was there that I learned the importance of research in advancing the field. Many of the medications that I prescribe now, I’ve known intimately since the early phases of clinical investigation. It was as a Fellow that I found my love for writing, having authored over 80 scientific publications, chapters, and articles. These years not only prepared me for my Dermatology Residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where I served as Chief Resident, but also made me realize that my career path would lead me outside of the hospital, into private practice.
My first chapter out of residency was to establish myself by working in two separate practices and locations in Manhattan, one on the Upper East Side and the other in Soho. In January of 2019, I have come on-board as a full-time Associate Dermatologist at Spring Street Dermatology. And in this next part of my career, I am beyond excited to help this practice grow.
For me, Cosmetic Dermatology is a Labor of Love that is based on getting to know someone first. The responsibility of listening to a client’s wants and needs should not be underestimated. My methodology is based in conservatism: looking natural, rejuvenated, and real while addressing the face as a whole, is always tantamount. Aesthetics is advancing at lightning-speed and remaining up-to-date on these advances is why I believe my 14 years of training in dermatology didn’t end when I graduated residency in 2015. Today, we live in a world where most anything can be achieved non-invasively. I firmly believe that the era of plastic surgery is passing. My clients are mainly mothers and working professionals who can’t afford serious downtime. Thinking about how to structure a treatment plan, integrating medical-grade skin care, and executing one’s desires given time constraints is what I am known for best.
Thank you for learning about who I am as a Cosmetic Dermatologist. I look forward to returning that favor by getting to know you, personally, in my office.
Rita V. Linkner,
